If you do an event other than as a competitor, we also want to hear from you! Marshals, mechanics and support crew, this means YOU. Remember, other club members might like to talk to you to get a general feeling for an event. Often non-competitors see more than those in the cars!
Colin Early/Colin Hutchings
Returned to Avon Park on Sunday 13th September for the second of this years K Sport sponsored events,
encouraged by a 10th overall on the previous event. Although keen to do better, they made a cautious
start on stage 1, using wets as the track was still damp. A change to slicks for stage 2 saw a great
improvement and they moved up to 12th position. On stage 3 the driver suffered a moment of brain fade
and turned right instead of left at the split. Realising his mistake after much abuse from the co-driver,
he performed an about face on the grass and regained the stage, but to no avail as they scored a stage maximum.
They had thought they had got away with it for a while, but at lunch time the penalty was applied.
Several other crews made a similar mistake and immediately retired, however the two Colins stayed on
to finish the day. If only the mistake hadn't been made - they would have finished 7th overall instead of 45th.
Split stages seem to be causing problems for Southern Car Club members.
Ian Torkington
got a split wrong on the recent Sweet Lamb Stages.
Sue Orchard/Graham Morris
Travelled to Belgium yet again. This time it was for the Tour of Flanders. They finished a brilliant 1st in
class, beating Ford driver Andrea Hall to the honours.
Vanessa Steele
Was out on the Bombalong Stages and came in a very creditable 4th in class.
Ellya Gold/Ian Harden
Were also reported as competing on the Bombalong Stages.
Numerous club members
Took part in the Rouen Treasure Hunt. Winners of the town section were the Do It On All Fours team,
whilst the road section was one by Rick's Rovers. The limerick competition was won by Team Panda.
Special thanks must go to Richard and Catherine Phillipson, Colin Early and Audrey Snell for their
hard work in organising the French Trip.
Mark Shoosmith/Chris Morford
Did contest the Plains Rally back in May, but an injury to Mark's back before the event put paid to any
serious action. After a long lay off they will be back in action on the Tamar Stages, where they came 4th
last year and a week later if still in one piece, out on the Kent Forestry.
