Olympic Fever

What a fantastic Olympic Games, and isn't it surprising how we can get hooked - at some unearthly hour of the early morning - on sports we wouldn't otherwise give the time of day. Sailing, triathlon, cycling, etc. But all credit to our medal winners, they make GB great.

However ... just think what they could have achieved with some of the money which has been squandered in the last 3 years on The Dome, a Scottish Parliament, a Welsh Assembly, a Millennium Bridge, etc. etc.

And that takes me onto a stunning idea. Instead of flogging the Dome to a third party at a 'closing down sale' price, why not keep it? But clear out all the exhibits which nobody wants to see, and build the National Sports Centre (NB this is the sports centre that one T Blair said 2 years ago was to be built and absolutely nothing has happened). We could have

an Olympic swimming pool, a cycle track, athletics centre, gymnastics, show jumping, in fact given the size of the site, you could probably fit a football pitch or two in - but then who cares much about our national football team - that overpaid bunch of underachievers. And the joy of this is that probably the whole population would support another injection of lottery cash into the Dome to make this dream come true.
