Richard Takes Title In Battle For Class Victory
Richard Phillipson's year long battle in the BTRDA series ended after the Cambrian Rally with a Class victory in N3.
Southern Car Club's leading rally driver did not have an easy time to take class honours. From his event reports you will know that he had a change of co-drivers, coped with several drive shaft failures and even a fire in his bid for honours.
To contest a championship takes a lot of determination especially when things are not always going as one would like. When the competition is also close it takes additional self control to drive at a pace which will keep you in contention, but not cause your retirement and blow your chances completely!
Richard & Catherine have recently moved to London, which is why we don't see them often at club nights (new address inside) so next time you do see Richard make sure you congratulate on an exceptional job!
New Rally Championship
The 2000 rally championships of the ACSMC and the ASEMC have been combined into one. The majority of the events in each championship were of course common to both so it is a logical move.
For clubs it promises a larger group of championship contenders, whilst for competitors a higher profile championship with a wider variety of venues.
The initial criteria, particularly in the tarmac championship will be one club one venue to obtain as much variety as possible. This will not of course preclude any club from organising a second event at another venue.
The impending loss of venues such as Wroughton however may lead to the double use of some venues by organising clubs.
