But first - a note from your Championship Secretary:
Things are really hotting up now. I think we can say that Paul will be lifting the road rally cup but who will claim the other awards? As you can see many still need to claim those all-important endorsements. Without your endorsements you cannot win an award. If you are unsure about your endorsements please give me a ring and I will let you know what you still need to do. Also please don't forget that the club championship year ends on the 30th November.
Vanessa Linley
Roger Binyon/Catherine Phillipson
did the Tour of Mull in the Montego. Running wide on a deceptive uphill hairpin put them deep into a muddy ditch. A bunch of mad Welshmen were eventually rounded up and got them out, only to see them go OTL as they tried to get several pints of petrol out of the car. But the Tour of Mull is nothing if not tolerant, and the daylight stages saw them in the Trophy Rally. However, during the evening break the crew spotted a tear in the high-tension cambelt and they had to retire before the start of the final leg. (The Curse of Phillipson contines. Who wants to be interviewed for My Car next??!)
John Blaber
went to the last round of the Mintex National rally championship leading class A6 but with scores to drop. His Peugeot 205 GTi lost power with a failed spark plug. Then they had a big spin at a tightening right on Sweet Lamb. Finishing 44th overall and 3rd in class put him level on points but he lost the tie break to take 2nd in class on the year.
Colin Early/Brian Hugh
debuted the rebuilt Darrian at the Spotted Dick & Custard rally at Goodwood. Colin chose road tyres to learn about the handling at lowish speed. By lunch they lay 23rd and 8th in class and, learning fast, finished 12th overall and 6th in class by the end of the day.
Graham Morris
went to Le Touquet to navigate for seasoned continental campaigner Geoff Wakefield in his 1.6 Peugeot GTi. They recorded a DNF when the distributor failed.
Sue Orchard/Graham Morris
finished a very impressive 2nd in class N2 in the EARS Motoring News Championship. See separate story for details.
Catherine Phillipson
Catherine is out on the RAC with Richard Worts in the ex-works Corsa, running at number 106.
Richard Phillipson/Catherine Phillipson
are taking their N3 Astra up to the Lynn Stages at Snetterton as we go to press. Perhaps Richard will grow to like tarmac...
James Potter
navigated for Will Nichols in his Astra-engined Escort Mk II on the Premier Mann stages in Nottinghamshire. They had a good day and finished in the top ten.
