National Rally Success

Our very own crew of John Blaber/Alan Jamieson have capped a stunning year in the ANCRO National Rally Championship by taking home some impressive pots (and some cash!): 1st in Class A6, 11th Overall in the Championship (behind 3 Subarus, 4 Mitsubishis, one 6R4, one Escort WRC and Phil Collins in his MKII!), 2nd in Formula 2 and first overall in the Initiative 2000 category.

Please put your collective hands together and applaud John, Alan and their loyal service crew; this is a big result for Southern Car Club.

SCC Hospitality Unit

As you all know, SCC has a very fine hospitality/HQ/Club unit which we take to all our events.

But did you know that it is for hire? If you want more details, talk to Chairman Rick or Secretary Sue.

Also in Y2K+1, you will be able to advertise on the unit; nice sign writing, prices/advert rates from Chairman Rick.

Super 1600 Confusion Reigns!

Last week there were two press releases doing the rounds; one from the MSA and one from First Event Management, both announcing Super 1600 Championships (for the uninitiated a Super 1600 is a derivative of the FIA Kit Car Regulations, 1600cc 2-wheel drive, etc).

So we have the British Super 1600 Rally Championship (owner MSA) which runs in parallel with the British Rally Championship over 2 days. Then we have the Rally Masters Championship (a.k.a. Super 1600) which runs on day one of the BRC rounds on a different permitted event.

So what does the competitor do? Which 1600 series should he attempt?

And how does our sport, which is difficult enough for the layman to understand, explain two Super 1600 winners on the same weekend to the editor of The Daily Mail.

It's enough to make you weep.
