1998 Blue Book change - Seat fixings

Seat fixings to the floor must now have a secondary strengthening plate welded to the floor plan. Check yours before you get failed at scrutineering!

Safety Rule for generators

All generators must be placed within a tray which has sufficient capacity to take the contents of both the petrol tank and the oil in case of a lead. This rule will be enforced rigidly at both Longcross and Avon Park, and also they ask for a suitable fire extinguisher to be placed close to the generator.

Histo Stuff

Amman &DMC are running their learn-while-you-compete historic rally again on the 14th/15th March. This year there will be a class for experts as well as the main one for novices. This is a night rally with a difference, including a 40 mile section over Epynt including Regularity and Jogularity (?) sections. Entries and regs from Martyn Jenkins, 6 Fordd Llyffant, Oakwood Gardens, Birchgrove, Swansea, SA7 9NY or phone 01792 812135. We have also received some publicity for the TR Enterprises Historic Rally Championship, which has seven rounds including three traditional night rallies, two smooth forest stage rallies and two daylight regularity rallies with special tests. Five scores to count and you can play a "joker" on one round to double your points. Regs from David Clibbery on 01709 894518. The events are based round Derbyshire, Notts, Lincs (can I call that the East Midlands without offending people?) and the stage rallies are in Clipstone.

AA Road Atlases Recall

The AA has had to recall 300,000 copies of its 1998 road atlas when a "computer error" accidentally deleted three towns: Camberley, Banstead and St Neots. The AA has only succeeded in recalling about 15% of the print run and admits that some drivers might get a shock as they drive along and collide with Banstead. "We've put a lot of time into promoting and improving this town, and this sort of thing doesn't help" said Malcolm Howarth, chairman of St Neots town centre management team. But deleting Camberley - who says there isn't such a thing as an intelligent computer?

Lead is Dead - 1st January 2000

In the ultimate New Year's Resolution, the DoT will be phasing out all unleaded petrol by the 1st January 2000. We have received a flyer from Broquet International advertising their fuel catalysts, which is fitted in the tank or fuel line and remains active for up to 250,000 miles or 6,500 hours. Good news for all Scud-mobile owners... Our local stockist is Rennsport Engineering at 67 Lemsford Lane, Welwyn Garden City, Herts on 01707 375911, or surf round to http://www.broquet.com.
