If you do an event other than as a competitor, we also want to hear from you!
Roger Binyon
is hoping to do the ACSMC Tarmac Rally Championship in his DAM 4100 while continuing to pursue his rallycross ambitions in the ex-Gillanders Montego.
John Blaber/Alan Jamieson
did the Winter Rally coming 42th overall, and 6th in the challenging A7 class. They made a great start in the Mintex championship, with John coming 3rd A7 driver and Alan 1st A7 navigator. And to top the lot, they got the best Southern Crew award.
Neil Boxall
is doing several rounds of the World Rally Championship as motorhome driver for the Mitsubishi team following his outing with them on the RAC. Lucky chap, most of us would give quite a lot to be in his shoes. Apparently Mitsubishi has the best catering so all the other drivers tend to use their motorhome too. Next event is Portugal.
Neil Cloughley
is replanning his 1998 season after some promised Daihatsu sponsorship vanished, but says he is Determined To Do Something. Prepare to see the Fiesta back on the scene.
Colin Early
has diverted his motorsport enthusiasm into building a new garage. Of course, after it's finished, he'll need something to put in it...
Ian Glenister
spent a fraught few weeks on the reserve list of the Winter Rally before finally getting a run at number 109 in his Lada Riva Estate with Justin Lovell co-driving. His run unfortunately finished on SS4 with engine problems. The Lada Challenge beckons for the rest of the year and Ian says that he already knows more Lada jokes than anyone else, thanks very much.
Ellya Gold/Ian Harden
are doing the Heart of England Championship this year, starting with an event at Snetterton on 22nd Feb. They did very well, coming 22nd overall and 7th in class out of a total of 60 starters. They were doing very well until some speedy avoiding action was required to get round some over-enthusiastic fellow drivers.
Last time I went to Snetterton it was cold enough to freeze... well, never mind, this is a family magazine but anyway Ian tells me the trick is to hire one of the pit garages. Their next event is Avon Park
Brian Hugh
has been marshalling on the Monte Carlo historic rally, a very gentleman-like event which is apparently tons of fun. It's so popular that you need to be invited even to marshal.
Dave Jacobs
is sorting out his 6R4 for an event ("anything other than Snetterton") as a warm-up to Millbrook.
Tony Jardine
was out on the Winter Rally in the RAC Direct Insurance car with Kevin Piper from Anglia TV in the celebrity seat and Catherine Phillipson directing operations remotely. Too remotely as it turns out, as they managed to pick up a minute's lateness, but apart from that a good day was had by all. They ended up 7th in class and 20th overall - not bad given that the co-driver had a dreadful tendency to confuse "tightens" with "opens"...
Justin Northage
is planning to do the British Rally Championship again this year, budget permitting. He's currently looking for a reasonably experienced navigator who would like to help out with the costs.
Sue Orchard/Graham Morris
are planning a season of Tarmac™ events which will probably include a couple of Irish rallies.
Richard Phillipson/Catherine Phillipson
have thrown budget caution to the wind and signed up for the British Rally Championship. They will also be out at Brooklands in their Gp N Astra ( a car which will soon be old enough to be referred to as "trusty".)
James Potter
tells me confidentially that he is busy greasing his rose joints. Now, I'm not sure I wanted to know that, but I will let you know of his plans once he has made any.
Russell Pratt
hopes to be out at Brooklands in his recently-acquired Mk II Astra.
Paul Smith/Ian Harden
were out on Borough 19's PCT in Ian's Scud, coming 12th and 13th in class respectively. No, you don't want to know how many people there were in the class.
Rick Smith/Tim Hines
have entered the All-England Road Book Constructors Championship, a marathon event which finished on February 28th.
Nick Starkey
was out on the Winter Rally doing second course car in the Chartersport 504 Coupé.
Dick Slaughter/Geoff Dearing
was out on the Winter Rally in their ex-works Mk II Escort, as the first round of the Mintex Championship. They came a stunning 1st in class B11 and 13th overall, but missed out on being first SCC crew because they didn't join long enough before the event.
Team Fortnight (Colin & Michael Weeks)
are looking for another successful year in the RAC and BTRDA PCT championships. Michael was out on Borough 19's PCT, with Chris Eames and came 7th in class.
