Shaz tells us what's good about being a member of Southern Well, you asked for it Steve, I've dusted down me old keyboard and I've brushed up on my keyboard skills - now for the difficult part - finding something to write about!! Now there's the question, you see. Being not such a great rally fan as most of you guys (and girls), but being a compulsive eater, no, sorry, FAN of Formula One, leaves me in a quandary, What exactly am I going to write about that would interest the people from Southern Car Club? Clearly rallying and the like is the main interest in the club and although I have "kermied left" and "Miss Piggied right" with Ness (you may have guessed that we've developed our own in-car language!) in a couple of rallies, I probably won't get too excited by the prospect of clambering around vast mountains in Way-ells (in November too, you mad fools!) to get a glimpse of Colin McRae! Probably I add, as Nessa (bag) does keep trying to get me there . . . . . Also, I have heard many a muttering from across the pub table about the "woosies" who drive Formula One cars and have to keep 'practising' around a track, unlike the rally heroes who simply jump in and off they go! This does not bode well. Still I am smug in the knowledge that Formula One is a far greater sport and requires far more skill . . . . . that ought to get you lot going!!! My only other option is to leave out cars altogether and talk about something that everyone in the club seems very keen on . . . . drinking!!! Having been to a few of the social occasions, it is obvious that everyone is fairly good at this drinking lark. The latest get together at the Holiday Inn proving my point! As Maurice Hamilton says in his letter to the club - everyone did really enjoy the awards evening (almost as much as I enjoyed my pizza at 1:30 in the morning - don't you just love room service!!) and proceeded to drink the bar dry. The venue was excellent, and although we did have some pretty dodgy characters on our table, we still managed to have a great time - Nessa even managed to loose her toupee by the end of the night! It was clear that everyone was up for a good night at the outset (Nessa was there early, propping up the bar to get the drinks in at 4 o'clockish?!) We would have been there earlier, but for a "did I turn the grill off?" moment half way round the M25. Still, several glasses of champagne (Thank you very much Matt - you fool!) later, nobody really cared and luckily the house was still there when we all 'came round' the next day! Here's to the next time! Sharon Steele Results | Members on-line | Motorsport links Any comments or suggestions, please contact: webmaster@southerncarclub.com Copyright © 2001 Southern Car Club Ltd. |
