Bookies Survive SCC Outing

Glorious sunshine ensured that the trip to Kempton Racecourse would be a good one. If we could win some money this time, it would be even better!

Club members met at the Jubilee pub opposite the course at midday and then proceeded to the racecourse. Once there of course, we descended on the bar and all sat down to choose 'our winners'.

Ian and Rick were studying the form guides and this seemed to be the best method as opposed to the nicest name' or 'best looking jockey' methods adopted by some. One of Ian's horses looked lame in the paddock, according to our resident horse expert Nessa. Ian wasn't convinced and backed it anyway. Unfortunately it trailed in at the back of the field.

Several races later, pockets were bulging with cash – unfortunately it was the bookmakers pockets! Then Ian landed an 11-1 winner and all the drinks were on him.

The day ended at about 6 p.m. and we all headed for home with various degrees of sunburn and decidedly lighter bank balances. It was a lot of fun and another trip will be planned in the near future.
