Well we had 7½ entries, why the half - well Steve Andrews turned up on his own and only did one third of the event; and raised £70 (see letter) for the Children's Trust on the day - thanks to those who donated their prize money, it all helps. Onto the Treasure Hunt itself; my idea of a start at Epsom Downs of course coincided with the start of Derby Week, and the fun fair - good planning eh? Anyway we found car parking spaces for everyone, some went to the fun fair, and we managed to start exactly on 4 o'clock. With about 35 miles ahead of the crews, split into 3 sections, and a pint & pie on offer at the Dukes Head, nobody could predict the eventual winners. At the end of Section 1 (a car park on Headley Common) the scores on the doors were:
Steve hadn't yet started, and the Howards & Pinks were possibly enjoying their very first motoring event! And so it was onto Section 2 via the Brockham & Leigh maze of roads to yet another car park just outside Reigate (Steve started from here!), and who was now doing the business?
The final frontier was a section round Mogador & Chipstead finishing at the car park in Lower Chipstead and with just ½ a point between first & second, who would win. At the final watering hole, with mine host Colin dispensing food & drink to the weary, the totals were:
