SCC French Trip - Dieppe/Rouen

As you may know, we were intending to go to Brittany on this weekend. However, we found out during the recce visit last week, much to our horror, that there is an agricultural event in Rennes which is so big that hotels are all booked up for 40 miles around.

So we have had a rapid change of plan and selected Rouen as being interesting, full of good restaurants and (importantly) nowhere near Rennes. We also thought that it sounded sufficiently similar that people might not notice the change...

The other important change is therefore that the weekend will be more social and less to do with a treasure hunt or seeing motorsport. Sorry about that, we just haven't got time to go over and do another recce. The good news is that the crossing is much shorter, so we don't need cabins on the ferry, which will make it much easier to organise.

There are loads of places to visit - Rouen spends the most on museums and monuments of any city in France! The town includes a 3-star cathedral, over 700 half-timbered houses, a belfry with a "majestic vista of the city", a great clock, a zillion churches and museums of absolutely everything (including, yes, a very good car museum). Oh yes, and there are a few shops too...

• Friday 18th Ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe at 8:45, Big Breakfast on board
  Afternoon exploring Rouen
  Evening group dinner
• Saturday 19th Morning free to go shopping
  Afternoon countryside tour
  Evening free to choose a restaurant yourself
• Sunday 20th Drive back to Dieppe the long way along the Seine valley
  Visit the Jumièges abbey and the Ételan Chateau, make time for a picnic!
  Fast ferry back at 17:00, arrive Newhaven around 18:15 local time

COST will be around £80 each for four people in a car (£100 for two people), to include ferry and two nights in the hotel. All food, drink and shopping is extra!
