The Chairman's View

It may seem that the Chairman's usual role is to sit at Committee meetings & pontificate, stand-up at dinners and say a few well chosen words or perhaps mix with and greet honoured guests. Well yes, that is part of the job but a very small part of it.

Let me explain what this Chairman has done on behalf of SCC in the last few months * photocopied the last 6 issues of the club magazine * found sponsors for our rally at Avon Park * spend 1½ days helping to set-up the BBQ site * written & produced a lot of the paperwork for our event at Avon (thanks Tim for the Road Book, Maps & Time Cards which I'm not clever enough to do) * photocopied all of the above * written & designed a good percentage of this issue of Windscreen in Morfs absence * helped to load van & trailer before it departed for Bournemouth * helped run documentation at Bournemouth Airport * helped cook the food at the Barbecue * bought all our team at Avon a drink (and bacon rolls for all our hard-working set up crew), etc, etc.

So what you might ask?, well as the old saying goes "if you're not prepared to do it yourself, how can you expect others to do it".

And that takes me on very nicely to our Annual General Meeting on September 18th; there are 3 key roles currently unfilled on the new Committee, SOCIAL SECRETARY (thanks Vanessa S for all your hard work in the last three years), MAGAZINE EDITOR AND PUBLICITY OFFICER ... so are you going to help?

As to the future, I have indicated to the current committee that, if you wish to elect me as Chairman, I will stand only until September 2001 when, I believe it is time for the Club to have a charge at the helm. Having devoted over 30 years service to Southern, I think it is time for newer (perhaps younger) faces to lead the way. The future is in your hands.
