Brewery Visit a Great Success

A large group of club members met at the Green Dragon in Horsham on the evening of Monday 15th March prior to raiding the King & Barnes brewery for a conducted tour and sampling.

On arrival we made our way into the brewery's own bar, where our hosts explained that they would show us a short video prior to us being shown the inner workings of the brewing process.

The video gave a short history of the company, detailing the take-over of 3 other breweries in Horsham as well as tracing the history of the King family who still own the brewery.

Our tour guide was a strange fellow who said 'damn' a lot (in fact I half expected him to say 'Damn fine crisps.) and was quite amusing. The employees must be a strange bunch, judging by the strange items dotted around the buildings. For example, something that looked remarkably like a machine gun was hanging next to a set of hammers – no-one dared ask!

Once the tour had finished we all returned to the very cosy bar for a tasting of King & Barnes products. Here our tour guide made a fatal error by saying that there would be no limit to the number of free samples tonight. Everyone, except some very glum looking drivers, did their best to make a large dent in King & Barnes profits.

A good night was had by all and we had to be removed from the building at 10pm

As a record of our visit we signed the visitors book as we departed, some of the entries were notable for their alcoholic influence!
