OK, so not everyone agreed with my Purely Personal last month, but I am happy to report on some clarifications regarding the BRC 'Tour of Grantham'. The MSA, of course, have every right to run an International Rally without needing any form of observation as they already hold a permit (and run) such an event: The Network Q Rally GB.

Other answers that have arisen from discussion of this topic are: the MSA is only going to run the event once (Y2K) and never again and the reason why it's on at all "contractual obligations to Channel 4". Also it appears that the CofC will not be an MSA Staffer, so the subject of being your own judge & jury goes away.

I'm glad to say in this case "well done MSA"; but next time try and handle the announcement of such events & activities a bit better!

Rick

THE VOICE

The last four pages in this issue are devoted to The Voice; the organ of our association the ACSMC.

I commend you to read it, as a lot of hard work has been put in by the executive of the ACSMC, not only into the publication but also into making the association probably now one of the most successful in the UK.

And we should all remember that our regional association is the route to the MSA and motorsport rules & regulations. So support the ACSMC and you support motorsport in the south.

Great SCC Results

The recent Mini Tempest Rally at Longcross, saw a brilliant result with 3 out of the top six competitors being card carrying SCC members. In first place was Dave Jacobs in his 6R4, second was Mark Straker in the Darien, while sixth was Jeremy Straker in the Cox GTM. Well done to all concerned, don't forget to let Vanessa Linley have your points claims!

ARC 2000 Rally

This event - the biggest competitive event in the off-road world - Friday 26 to Monday 29 May, is hosted by Hants & Berks Rover Owners and is at Broxhead Common, near Bordon, Hants.

The Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs is planning to take a stand at the above event and Vice-Chairman Paz Parry would be pleased to hear from any member clubs or even individuals that are able to offer some assistance in manning the stand, providing suitable equipment, display material or even vehicles.

Barbecue is Back!

The Southern Barbecue is going back to its roots, a fun evening for everyone - and mega cheap to boot!

Your chefs for the evening will be Messrs, Grinsted, Underhill, Malpas & Smith - and the disco will be from that bon viveur of the decks - Paul Skinner.

In a break from tradition, there will be no bar, so just bring your own supplies - this will save you money. Plus there will be a giant bonfire and fireworks (courtesy of pyromaniac Kevin).

Everyone is welcome, club members, friends, neighbours, work mates, your kids and their friends.

And the price will be just £12.50 per ticket for guests and a stunning £10 for club members.

The date Saturday 29th July and the venue - as always Perrotts Farm of the A217 near Burgh Heath.

Put this important social event in your diary now!

PS: There will be a vegetarian menu as well - but don't forget to tell us when you book, and tickets will be out early June.
